So Much Fun

I just love having a garden so much. I wish I could just plant all kinds of things just to see what they turn into and look like. I am really enjoying growing heirloom plants this year, each one is so unique. Names are cool too, like this Cosmic Purple carrot. I have never grown carrots before, so I had no idea how they were doing or when they should be pulled. I guess they still need to go a little longer, but its neat seeing a purple carrot. The cucumber is an heirloom plant also, called an Early Russian. And especially fun was finding a ripe Russian Black Krim. I can't wait to taste it tomorrow. I had to look up pictures of this particular tomato since I have never grown this kind before and had no idea what it should look like. I have already dried a couple jars of Dark Purple Opal basil and the Giant of Italy parsley. I only wish my garden was 4x the size it is. Oh well, maybe it will just have to grow some more next year.

That purple carrot is interesting. Does it taste the same as an orange carrot? I'm glad you are enjoying your garden. Your pictures from last year showed the nicest, neatest garden I have ever seen. If I had a garden, I would want it to look just like yours. I have one tomato plant this year...who knows, maybe next year I will have two! We just have SO many critters in our yard. I tried to plant dill and something kept pulling out the plants. Groundhogs ate all my sunflowers. Maybe a fence is in order?

Yes Jill the purple carrot tastes like an orange carrot, maybe a little sweeter. It is orange inside and looks like other carrots. Its just really weird having vegetables that aren't the color of what you expect them to be. It sure is fun trying new plants. Most of my garden this year are heirloom plants that I have grown from seed, which was very difficult to do, I found out. A few of the tomato plants were grown by Amy. Thanks for the compliment on my garden from last year. I really do enjoy taking care of it. Quite a few people in our neighborhood put small fences around their gardens since we have a lot of wildlife here as well. I especially have a lot of squirrels, chipmunks, and rabbits. I thought for sure I was going to get to enjoy having some apples this year but in the last couple weeks they have all disappeared to the deer. Oh well, I guess I will share with them since I enjoy living here way more than in town. Give a bigger garden a try next year (with a fence around it). I bet you could make a really nice, neat garden as well.
